Porter Jensen was founded in the University District in 1924 by William Lindenberg. Twenty years later, the business was purchased by Anchor Jensen and Fred Neilson. Anchor Jensen was known for his artistry in hand carving. His piece de resistance was a silver chess set. Each piece was hand carved in wax, in the shapes of Vikings and Gault, later to be cast in silver. The chess set is now owned by the Museum of History and Industry.
In 1958, Warren Porter purchased the store, renaming it Porter Jensen. The store relocated to University Way in 1962.
Mr. Porter recruited Josef Waldmann to work at Porter Jensen in 1997. Joe loved the store and later purchased it in 1999. As his hard work flourished, Joe opened a new location in the University Village in 2001. With a focus on carrying diverse collections of jewelry, as well as custom design the store found continued success.
Seeking a new environment, Porter Jensen relocated to Newcastle in 2010, and continues to offer a unique collection of new and estate jewelry, with a focus on custom design.
Josef and Nancy Waldmann own and operate Porter Jensen, continuing to uphold the classic Seattle jeweler's golden reputation.
Josef comes from a jewelry background. Inspired by his father, a jeweler before him, Josef graduated from the Gemological Institute of America at the age of 18. Josef creates, repairs, and restores a wide array of jewelry. From his patented Titanium T3 rings, to more delicate pieces in gold in platinum, and now, even custom watches.
Nancy comes from a family of talented artists, and she definitely follows suit. An art history major, with a degree from FIDM, along with a gift for design, Nancy can help bring your ideas to life.
A unique jewelry destination since 1924. Porter Jensen has been built on a foundation of quality jewelry and service. It is our mission to bring individuals one-of-a-kind pieces to last a lifetime.
